No celebrity should have to worry about their private photos and videos ending up online without their permission, especially if it’s due to the malicious hacks of Islamic extremist groups. These cybercriminals use unauthorised access to private files in order steal nude photos and videos for their own gain, often selling them for profit or promoting messages of hate or intimidation.

This is a clear violation of personal rights as it not only violates standards of privacy but invades the confidentiality of individuals who did not consent to the sharing of such material. The issue was brought to light in 2014 when a group dubbing themselves ‘The Islamic State Hacking Division’ stolen nude photos and video from over 100 popular celebrities and uploaded them onto the web. The public should understand that nude photos posted online by Islamic extremist groups are a result of illegal activity and should refrain from viewing, downloading, or further distributing any such material. Although these hackers may claim religious justification for what they do, these actions are not in accordance with basic laws set out by mainstream Islamic teachings. Rather they seek only personal gratification from violating innocent people’s rights without reprimand.
